This exciting four-day conference at the beautiful luxury oceanfront Caribe Hilton in San Juan, Puerto Rico - the home of the Pina Colada - will highlight recent breakthroughs in epigenetics and chromatin research and will foster the collaboration and exchange of scientific expertise and knowledge in one of the most vibrant areas of life sciences. Through scientific presentations, a wide spectrum of topics in epigenetics and chromatin biology will be explored.

EpiCypher2016 will feature a keynote address by Dr. Yang Shi. Dr. Shi is the Merton Bernfield Professor of Neonatology at Boston Children's Hospital / Harvard Medical School. Dr. David Allis was also scheduled to give a keynote lecture but regrettably had to withdraw.

The plenary session talks will cover broad aspects of epigenetics and chromatin biology, ranging from basic molecular mechanisms to therapeutic efforts. There will be discussions around the elucidation of novel mechanisms, new tools, and other breaking topics in epigenetics and chromatin research.

Arrival: Upon arrival by plane at San Juan's Luis Munoz International Airport, the Caribe Hilton Hotel is a 15 minute cab ride. Typically, this will cost $20-$30 each way.

Visa / Passport Requirements

U.S. Citizens
There is no passport requirement for U.S. citizens for direct travel between the mainland United States and U.S. territories, including Puerto Rico. LINK

Non-U.S. Citizens residing in U.S. on a visa
Puerto Rico is part of the United States, so no visa is necessary for travel to or return from those locations. However, Exchange Visitors should carry full documentation with them (e.g. passport, DS-2019, I-94), especially if the travel involves transit through or short stays in other countries where full documentation including a valid visa would be necessary for return to the US.

Non-U.S. Citizens residing outside the U.S.
Puerto Rico is part of the United States, so non-U.S. citizens will require proper travel documents to visit Puerto Rico (e.g. passports, travel visas, etc, depending upon their country of residence).


On any given day during April in Puerto Rico, you can expect early morning temperatures to be around 78 degrees. Temperatures in Puerto Rico typically rise during the day, to an average of 84 degrees in the early afternoon. By early evening, temperatures in Puerto Rico generally decline to around 78 degrees. Temperatures in Puerto Rico average around 79 degrees during April. In April the chance of rain is below 10%, but more prevalent in the late afternoon.

STUDENT TRAVEL AWARDS: We will be awarding three travel awards to graduate students attending EpiCypher 2016. Two ($500 each) will be selected from US/North America attendees and one ($750) will be awarded to an international attendee.

Travel Award Application Deadline: March 1st, 2016

Who is eligible: These awards are eligible to full-time graduate students that are registered to attend EpiCypher 2016.

Should I register for the meeting?
To attend the meeting, it will be necessary for you to register. After you register and pay for the meeting, you can apply for the travel award.

What expenses can be reimbursed?
1. Economy or coach class plane or train tickets.
2. Local transportation such as taxis, subway, or bus.
3. Your hotel room (excluding incidentals).
4. Fuel, tolls, and parking if you drive to the meeting.
5. Your meeting registration.

What expenses will not be reimbursed?
1. Membership dues.
2. Food or beverages.

When will I be reimbursed?
At the conclusion of the meeting you will need to submit your receipts, after which we will send you a check for the total amount of your travel expenses or the allotted award amount, whichever is less.

Zika Virus Information

Some of you may be concerened about recent reports of Zika virus infection in Puerto Rico. We take your concerns and your health very seriously. Thirty cases of Zika virus infection have been reported to date in Puerto Rico, but primarily in the Eastern end of the island and the areas outside of San Juan.

The Caribe Hilton has engaged Ecolab, Inc. to fumigate the hotel grounds on a daily basis to prevent mosquito infestation. Additionally, we will be providing insect repellent to every attendee and each of their guests.
